The Perfect Fit story chronicles over a century of innovation, commitment, and craftsmanship. Our evolution incorporates several pioneering companies that built strong reputations across the western US, starting in the 20th century and continuing today. As America has grown, so has Perfect Fit. And it all started with upholstery!
A Century of Craftsmanship
In 1924, Perfect Fit Manufacturing Company launched as a family-run business in Portland, OR. With expertise in seat and tire covers, Perfect Fit became a trusted supplier for major catalog stores like Montgomery Ward. Over the years the company transitioned to wholesale manufacturing of seat covers, carpets, and vinyl roof covers.
Meanwhile, two brothers had founded McDonald & Co, Inc. in Seattle in 1912. They crafted and installed upholstery and topping materials for the auto industry, later expanding into furniture and mattress supplies. As pioneers in foam cushioning and marine topping fabrics, McDonald & Co. drove product innovation and expanded through the Pacific Northwest for the next several decades.
After decades of rivalry, in 1965 these two competitors joined forces to become Perfect Fit-McDonald, Inc.
Meanwhile, another family business had emerged in Portland in the 1920’s—Vaughan’s Fabric & Supply. Originally focused on automotive upholstery, Vaughan’s later expanded into marine and awning fabrics. The company remained family-owned for generations until joining Perfect Fit in 2020.
The Rise of Campervans
Fast-forward to post-pandemic America when the adventure van movement exploded. Campervan HQ started in 2016 as a Colorado-based e-commerce site, specializing in parts for DIY campervan builders. The company soon became a go-to online hub for DIYers and professionals, offering van windows, fans, heaters, refrigerators, roof racks, and more.
In 2022, Campervan HQ merged with Perfect Fit, significantly expanding the product lineup for van builders, especially professionals. This alliance strengthened the company's ability to serve the growing campervan community while continuing to support the automotive, marine, and furniture industries.
Return to Our Roots
As Perfect Fit reached our 100th birthday, we renewed our dedication to providing the best selection and service to our original customers in the automotive, marine, furniture, flooring, and other segments.
In 2024 we completely overhauled the Perfect Fit website to make the shopping experience easier, faster, and prettier! We added new products and reduced pricing on many popular brands. We also introduced new shipping options and created more ways to reach our customer service team—all to revitalize our core customers’ experience.
